New Delhi, Aug 27 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday celebrated Raksha Bandhan with children from different parts of the national capital, who tied several rakhis on her wrist. Calling their affection a blessing, she said their love held a special place in her heart.
Taking to the social media platform X, the Chief Minister shared glimpses of the celebration and described the children’s joy and enthusiasm.
Rekha Gupta said, “The joy of festivals among children is something else altogether. Today, I celebrated Raksha Bandhan with my dear little friends who came from different parts of Delhi. They tied so many rakhis with immense love, fed me sweets to their heart’s content, and then began unlimited chatter, laughter, and heaps of mischief.”
Delhi CM further said that this love of yours is no less than a blessing.
“My children, this love of yours is no less than a blessing for me. May your smiles always bloom like this, may every opportunity come your way in your dreams, and may Delhi always remain safe and full of possibilities for you. Today, there are so many rakhis on my wrist and heaps of your love in my heart,” she said in the post.
Raksha Bandhan symbolises the deep bond of love and protection between siblings. On the occasion, sisters tie colourful rakhis on their brothers’ wrists, while brothers express their affection by offering gifts and pledging to protect their sisters through life’s ups and downs.
The festival is observed annually on the Purnima, or full moon day, of the Hindu month of Shravana. This year, Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on Friday.
According to Hindu traditions, tying a rakhi during Bhadra, considered an inauspicious period, is generally avoided. Drik Panchang states that the auspicious muhurat on August 28 will be between 5:57 a.m. and 9:48 a.m., lasting for three hours and 51 minutes.
Beyond rituals and gifts, Raksha Bandhan remains a celebration of the enduring bond between siblings, marked by childhood memories, shared experiences and the promise of always standing by one another.
