Bengaluru, July 25 (IANS) A woman was allegedly sexually harassed by a co-passenger aboard a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus near Manyata Tech Park in Bengaluru, prompting intervention by the bus driver, who allegedly assaulted the accused after preventing him from fleeing. The video has gone viral on social media on Saturday.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place on Friday on BMTC bus route No. 500D/40. The woman alleged that a male passenger inappropriately touched her while she was travelling on the bus. The woman confronted the man and slapped him after the harassment began.
Upon being confronted by the woman, the accused allegedly attempted to escape. The BMTC driver reportedly shut both doors of the bus to stop him from getting away. The accused, when confronted by the young woman, tried to intimidate her by removing his shirt and going half-naked. The driver, losing temperament at this point, subsequently assaulted him in the presence of other passengers.
A video purportedly showing the incident has since surfaced on social media and has been widely circulated.
The incident has created concern over the safety and security of working women as it occurred in the vicinity of Manyata Tech Park, which houses a large number of IT, BT and MNC companies. Thousands of women employees use public transport.
Authorities have not yet officially identified either the woman or the accused. Police and BMTC officials are said to be examining the viral video and gathering details to establish the sequence of events and ascertain the identities of those involved.
Further information is awaited as the investigation progresses.
It may be recalled that recently Bengaluru police arrested a delivery agent named Vijay Mallikarjun Kamath after a woman in Marathahalli alleged he forced entry into her flat on the pretext of using the restroom and exposed himself. The woman documented her ordeal on social media after a Flipkart delivery agent pushed past her refusal to use her washroom and flashed her. She kept her door open and recorded on her phone out of fear.
In Electronic City apartment in July 2026, another delivery agent entered a flat under the guise of using the restroom, stripped, and exposed himself before being caught by security and residents. Flipkart terminated the delivery partner implicated in the first event and stated that customer safety is non-negotiable.
