Guwahati, Sep 5 (IANS) Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan is scheduled to arrive in Assam on Sunday for a two-day visit during which he will attend an educational institution’s golden jubilee celebrations, a university convocation and a civic reception, officials said on Saturday.
According to officials, Vice-President Radhakrishnan will reach Guwahati airport at around 10 a.m. on Sunday.
His visit will include a series of engagements centred around education, culture and development.
The Vice-President will later attend the golden jubilee celebrations of Geetanagar College at the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati.
The college is completing 50 years of its academic journey, and the Vice-President is expected to address the gathering during the commemorative programme.
Vice-President Radhakrishnan will also attend the convocation ceremony of the Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences at Jyoti-Bishnu Antorjalik Kala Mandir.
The university convocation is expected to bring together graduating students, faculty members and other dignitaries.
On Monday morning, the Vice-President will visit the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, one of the most prominent Shakti Peethas and an important religious and cultural landmark in Assam.
He is scheduled to offer prayers at the temple before proceeding to his other engagements.
Later in the day, Vice-President Radhakrishnan will attend a civic reception at the Gauhati University Convention Centre.
During the programme, he is also scheduled to lay the foundation stones for various development projects.
Officials, however, have not yet disclosed details regarding the projects for which the foundation stones will be laid.
The Vice-President’s visit comes as Assam continues to host a series of high-level engagements involving national leaders, with education, healthcare and development emerging as key areas of focus in the state.
The visit will also provide an opportunity for interaction with students, academicians, public representatives and members of civil society.
After completing his engagements in Assam, Vice-President Radhakrishnan is scheduled to leave for neighbouring Meghalaya on Monday.
He will continue his visit to the Northeast in Meghalaya, according to officials.
The two-day Assam itinerary is expected to involve tight security arrangements in Guwahati, particularly around the Vice-President’s scheduled venues and the Kamakhya Temple.
