‘Stop Vote Theft, Save Democracy’: NSUI stages protest in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) staged a protest at Freedom Park here on Tuesday under the slogan “Stop Vote Theft, Save the Country”, raising allegations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

NSUI leaders and activists from various districts participated in the protest, including national president Vinod Jakhar, AICC secretary Gopinath, state president Keerthi Ganesh, former Legislative Council member Narayanaswamy and BMTC chairman V.S. Aradhya.

Addressing the gathering, Gopinath alleged that Kumar had the backing of the BJP and RSS. He claimed that names of eligible voters had been deleted from electoral rolls and demanded that they be restored.

Gopinath said no eligible citizen should be deprived of the right to vote and called for transparency and fairness in elections. He also said protests over the issue were being organised across the country under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.

NSUI national president Vinod Jakhar demanded action against those responsible for what the organisation described as irregularities in voter lists.

State president Keerthi Ganesh said a campaign against “vote theft” was being conducted across Karnataka. He said the campaign was being carried out following directions from Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and KPCC president B.K. Hariprasad, and called for greater transparency in the electoral process.
