
Colombo, June 5 (IANS) The High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka on Friday inaugurated and handed over 24 new houses at Pathinigama Model Village in Kurunegala District, which were built with India’s grant assistance.
“Building homes for a secure future! Delighted to inaugurate and hand over 24 new houses at Pathinigama Model Village in Kurunegala District, together with Hon. Dr. Sushil Ranasinghe, Minister of Housing, Construction & Water Supply,” Santosh Jha, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, wrote on X.
“Built with India’s grant assistance, Model Villages are being developed across all 25 districts of Sri Lanka, improving living standards and fostering inclusive socio-economic development at the grassroots,” he added.
On Wednesday, the Indian High Commissioner visited Delft Mahavidyalayam on Delft Island, along with the Governor of the Northern Province, for the inauguration of the ‘Bharat Corner’.
“Bridging Shores, Building Futures. Visited Delft Mahavidyalayam on Delft Island, along with Hon’ble Governor of the Northern Province for the inauguration of the ‘Bharat Corner’ and the distribution of essential assistance to the school’s students,” he wrote on X.
The Indian diplomat deeply appreciated the “incredible resilience” shown by the people on Delft Island, who persevere despite the numerous challenges they face in their daily lives.
“Modest contribution from India to support the community in their effort to build a brighter future. Such people-centric efforts are the hallmark of the enduring India-Sri Lanka partnership, reflecting a shared commitment to building a brighter, collaborative future for the next generation,” he noted.
He also planted a tree at Keerimalai Naguleshwaram Temple as part of a campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Continuing the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (Plant4Mother) campaign, launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, High Commissioner Santosh Jha, planted a tree at Keerimalai Naguleshwaram Temple,” the High Commission of India in Colombo wrote on X.
