Shillong, July 14 (IANS) Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) B.D.R. Tiwari on Tuesday said that the Special Intensive Revision exercise is progressing steadily across all 12 districts of the state. He appealed to all eligible voters to actively participate in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of the electoral rolls and ensure that every eligible citizen is enrolled.
He urged electors who have not yet completed the process to cooperate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during their house-to-house visits or use the online facility to fill, digitally sign and submit their Enumeration Forms.
The CEO said the revision exercise has been progressing steadily across Meghalaya through the coordinated efforts of the election machinery and the active cooperation of electors. As on Tuesday (July 14), a total of 19,91,883 Enumeration Forms had been distributed out of 23,49,645 registered electors, achieving an overall coverage of 84.77 per cent. He said 5,64,610 Enumeration Forms had also been digitised, accounting for 24.03 per cent of the state’s total electorate.
Among the districts, West Jaintia Hills recorded the highest distribution of Enumeration Forms at 98.94 per cent, followed by South West Garo Hills (97.77 per cent), North Garo Hills (95.12 per cent), South West Khasi Hills (90.37 per cent), and East Garo Hills (88.84 per cent). In terms of digitisation, East Jaintia Hills topped the state with 41.55 per cent of Enumeration Forms digitised, followed by South West Khasi Hills (40.31 per cent), Eastern West Khasi Hills (36.73 per cent), South West Garo Hills (34.01 per cent), and West Garo Hills (33.23 per cent).
Highlighting efforts to enhance public participation, Tiwari said an awareness and interaction programme on the Special Intensive Revision was organised with members of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in hybrid mode at the MLA Hostel Conference Hall in Shillong on July 13.
During the programme, the objectives, significance, timelines and procedures of the revision exercise were explained, while legislators were urged to create awareness among voters and encourage eligible citizens to actively participate in the process.
The Chief Electoral Officer also said that his office has been conducting weekly review meetings through video conferencing with District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) to closely monitor the progress of the house-to-house distribution and digitisation of Enumeration Forms, besides reviewing other activities under the SIR programme.
He said the officers have been directed to closely supervise the work of Booth Level Officers, promptly resolve field-level issues and ensure that all activities are completed within the timelines prescribed by the Election Commission of India.
Responding positively, Tiwari said that the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer would soon organise a special facilitation camp for media personnel to assist them in completing and submitting their Enumeration Forms.
The CEO also appreciated the efforts of the election machinery and commended the dedication of District Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, Booth Level Officers, BLO Supervisors and other election officials for ensuring the smooth implementation of the Special Intensive Revision across the state.
Reiterating his appeal, Tiwari urged electors who have not yet received or submitted their Enumeration Forms to complete the process at the earliest, either through their respective Booth Level Officers or by using the online digital submission facility.
He emphasised that an accurate, inclusive and updated electoral roll is fundamental to strengthening democracy and ensuring free, fair and participative elections.
