Lucknow, May 27 (IANS) Project Ganga, an ambitious and visionary scheme of the Yogi Adityanath government is set to go ‘live’ soon, setting the stage for digital outreach and self-reliance in lakhs of rural households in Uttar Pradesh.
According to officials associated with Project Ganga, almost all modalities for the launch of the project have been completed and final stage preparations are underway for its roll-out.
Project Ganga’s primary goal is to connect more than 20 lakh households across rural areas in the state, with high-speed broadband connectivity over the next two to three years.
The project, seen as a landmark and a watershed moment for the state, will be actively supervised and monitored by government officials, even as 8,000 to 10,000 digital entrepreneurs and service providers are expected to assist in implementation of the ambitious program.
Under the project, a large-scale network of broadband connectivity, free public Wi-Fi, cyber security solutions, IPTV, and digital services will be established in rural regions.
Project Ganga was initiated in July 2025 and earlier this year, an MoU was signed in presence of UP Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna.
Last month, strategic discussions regarding financial enablement with banking partners also commenced, making the project fully prepared to go ‘live.’
Under Project Ganga, a digital service provider network will be established to ensure access to Internet and advanced digital services in rural areas.
Through this initiative, households will gain access to high-speed broadband, public Wi-Fi, and OTT platforms.
In addition, CCTV-based security solutions, cyber security services, and institutional digital connectivity will also be strengthened.
The project aims not only to provide Internet access but also to prepare villages for future digital technologies.
Facilities such as freelancing support, remote work opportunities, online vocational training, and digital libraries will be made available under the initiative.
This will enable youth living in villages to benefit from digital opportunities similar to those available in major cities.
It is believed that the project could give a major boost to the digital economy in rural Uttar Pradesh and create new employment opportunities.
The Yogi government believes that digital connectivity is the backbone of the future economy of the state.
Project Ganga is expected to prepare UP villages as the backbone of the future economy and also provide a strong foundation for the ‘Connected Villages, Prosperous UP’ vision.
