President Murmu Invited to Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela Flag-Hoisting Ceremony

Mumbai: A delegation led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday invited President Droupadi Murmu to attend the flag-hoisting ceremony marking the formal commencement of the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027 on October 31.

The delegation included Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar, along with ministers, officials and other representatives of the state government. The President was also invited to attend the Goda Aarti, the launch of the Kumbh Mela Authority’s website and the Kumbh Mela song, the unveiling of a coffee-table book, and the release of a commemorative postal stamp.

The invitation features an innovative three-dimensional pop-up design depicting the mythological setting, spiritual grandeur and scale of the Kumbh Mela. Designed around the five senses—sight, sound, smell, taste and touch—it highlights Nashik’s cultural heritage, the sacred significance of the Godavari river and the festival’s place in Indian traditions.

A special gift set presented to the President showcases Maharashtra’s diverse cultural and economic heritage. It includes products from Shabari Naturals under the Tribal Development Department, such as incense sticks, millet-based food products, items made from Mahua flowers, bamboo crafts and forest produce. The collection highlights traditional tribal knowledge, sustainable use of natural resources and efforts to promote local entrepreneurship.

The gift set also features a Paithani saree from Yeola, along with Nashik’s agricultural produce, including black raisins and cashews. Chivda, a popular local delicacy, and a selection of sweets and dried fruits are also part of the collection.

State ministers Girish Mahajan, Dadaji Bhuse, Narhari Zirwal and Chhagan Bhujbal attended the occasion, along with Nashik Mayor Himagauri Aher-Adke, Trimbak Municipal Council president Triveni Tungar and other dignitaries.
