Bankipura (Bihar): Jan Suraj Party founder Prashant Kishor registered his maiden electoral victory on Monday, winning the Bankipura Assembly by-election by a margin of 19,324 votes and entering the Bihar Assembly for the first time.
According to the official results, Kishor secured 64,151 votes, defeating BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar, who polled 44,827 votes. RJD nominee Rekha Kumari finished a distant third with 14,273 votes.
The victory marks a major political milestone for Kishor, who transitioned from being one of India’s best-known election strategists to active politics after launching the Jan Suraj Party and undertaking a statewide Jan Suraj Padayatra across Bihar over the past two years.
The result is also a setback for the BJP, as Bankipura was long considered a party stronghold and was previously represented by BJP national president Nitin Nabin.
Addressing supporters after the victory, Kishor said his doors would always remain open for the people of Bankipura and promised visible development in the constituency within three months. He said fulfilling the aspirations of the people and accelerating development would be his top priorities.
