NCP (SP) MPs to meet PM Modi over Maha issues

Mumbai, Aug 8 (IANS) Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule on Saturday announced that the party delegation will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday to address critical issues concerning Maharashtra.

She also outlined the party’s stance on the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) amendment bill and clarified its position regarding the Delimitation Bill.

Sule told reporters that a delegation of eight NCP (SP) MPs requested an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address urgent state matters. The Prime Minister’s Office has scheduled the meeting for Monday at 11:00 a.m. in his Parliament office.

She highlighted that due to disruptions in parliamentary proceedings, the MPs decided to approach the Prime Minister directly regarding acute state concerns, including water shortages, farmer suicides, rapid urbanisation challenges, and implementation hurdles in utilising the Rs 5 crore MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds due to inadequate assistance from the state government.

Sule stated that the NCP (SP) opposes the FCRA bill in its current form. She demanded that the government either withdraw the bill or refer it to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for thorough deliberation.

Referring to past discussions around student protests at Jantar Mantar and the NEET issue, she called for the setting up of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the events, including the use of pellet guns and tear gas reportedly heard inside Parliament premises while doors were locked.

She dismissed speculation regarding the Delimitation Bill, emphasising that no official draft has been introduced yet. Sule noted that INDIA Bloc leaders meet daily at 10:00 a.m. under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge, and any response will be formulated in consultation with allies, including Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP), Shiv Sena (UBT), and Trinamool Congress, once the bill is officially tabled.
