Jammu, Aug 18 (IANS) Following reports of ‘suspicious movement’, security forces have launched a multi-district search operation in Jammu division on Tuesday, officials said.
Security forces launched coordinated search operations across parts of Udhampur, Reasi, and Kathua districts following separate reports of suspected persons’ movement, the officials said.
In Udhampur, a joint team of police and the CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation in Talot village after two suspicious persons were reportedly noticed in the area late Monday night.
Officials said the duo, who were wearing shawls, knocked repeatedly at the residence of Prakash Chand and asked for food.
The residents did not open the door and alerted security forces after the duo left the area towards Khuban. The information prompted the deployment of joint police and CRPF teams, which subsequently cordoned the area and launched searches to trace the two persons.
Searches were also carried out in the Jophar/Ramnagar forest stretches and Majalta sector in Udhampur.
Security forces also carried out searches in the Sadini forests of Reasi following reports of suspected movement there.
In Kathua, searches were conducted in several villages near the International Border in the Hiranagar sector as part of the security operation.
Officials said search operations were continuing and further details would be known as they progress.
The simultaneous searches in the three districts come amid heightened surveillance in areas where security agencies have received reports of suspected movement.
High-ranking officials, including the DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range and SSP Udhampur, are supervising the ongoing operations, intensive vehicle checks, and forest combing.
Similar searches are going on in Poonch and Rajouri districts, where suspicious movement was reported by locals two days back.
