New Delhi, Sep 11 (IANS) A 22-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death in Delhi’s Mandawali area following an altercation, with police arresting one accused and identifying another suspect in connection with the murder, officials said.
The incident was reported at around 7:54 p.m. on Thursday when a PCR call regarding a stabbing was received at Mandawali police station. A police team immediately reached the area near Gyan Vatika School in Mandawali, where the injured man, identified as Vansh Dedha, was found.
Dedha was rushed to Max Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him brought dead, according to police. During examination, 17 stab injuries were found on his body.
According to the preliminary inquiry, the incident followed an altercation between the victim and the accused. Police said Keshav Kumar, 22, a resident of Karawal Nagar, allegedly chased Dedha along with an associate and repeatedly stabbed him with a sharp-edged weapon near Gyan Vatika School before fleeing the spot.
A case of murder has been registered at Mandawali police station, police said.
During the investigation, Keshav Kumar was arrested, while the second alleged assailant has also been identified, according to officials. Police teams are making efforts to trace and apprehend the remaining accused at the earliest.
Police said the knife allegedly used in the offence has been recovered. The clothes allegedly worn by the accused during the incident have also been recovered, while the motorcycle purportedly used by the accused persons has been taken into police possession.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area and analysing technical surveillance to establish the sequence of events and gather further evidence in the case.
Police are also investigating the circumstances that led to the altercation and the motive behind the attack. Further investigation is underway, officials said.
The incident comes amid continued police efforts to identify and apprehend all those allegedly involved in the fatal stabbing. Authorities said further details would emerge as the investigation progresses and additional evidence is examined.
