Man arrested for killing same sex partner in Bengal’s Farakka

Kolkata, Oct 25 (IANS) A man has been arrested on charge of killing his partner after he decided to come out of a same sex relationship, the police said on Sunday.

The incident took place in Murshidabad district’s Farakka area of West Bengal.

The police arrested the accused within 24 hours of the murder of the youth, who is a migrant worker in Farakka.

The police have filed an application in the court to take the accused man into their custody.

Jangipur Police District Additional Superintendent of Police, Sajal Kanti Biswas, announced the arrest during a press conference at Farakka Police Station on Sunday afternoon.

The accused person has been produced before the Jangipur Sub-district Court.

An application has been made to take him into seven-day police custody.

According to the police, the deceased youth’s name has been identified as 22-year-old Mubarak Sheikh.

On Friday morning, the police recovered his body in the paddy field of Nasim Sheikh in Amtala area of Imamnagar gram panchayat which is adjacent to neighbouring Jharkhand.

The youth’s hands were tied and was brutally murdered by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon.

A bottle of liquor was lying next to him.

The deceased Mubarak was a migrant worker by profession.

He had returned home on leave a few days ago.

During the investigation, the police examined the call list of the deceased’s mobile phone and the CCTV footage of the Khoshaspur liquor shop following which the police arrested the accused Nasiruddin Sheikh alias Mister (32).

The Police said that Mubarak met Nasiruddin while working in Odisha where they became friends and got involved in a same sex relationship.

However, Mubarak had been trying to get out of that relationship for quite some time.

Due to this, he started having problems with Nasiruddin over that.

After learning that Mubarak had come to the village a few days ago, Nasiruddin contacted him again on Thursday.

However, Nasiruddin had already planned the murder by then, the police said.

As planned, the two bought liquor from Khoshalpur on Thursday night and drank at a secluded paddy field in Amtala, adjacent to Jharkhand.

Allegedly, Nasiruddin, under the influence of alcohol, removed Mubarak’s shirt and tied his hands. Then, he slit his throat with a sharp weapon and fled.

The body was recovered on Friday.

The police arrested the accused on Saturday night.

Police claimed that the accused confessed to the murder during questioning and was produced in the court on Sunday.
