Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has launched a special training programme in collaboration with the National Security Guard (NSG) to strengthen the state police force’s ability to tackle emerging crime and security challenges, Home Minister Priyank Kharge said.
The Comprehensive Capacity Building Training Programme for Karnataka Police was launched at Manekshaw Parade Ground in Bengaluru in the presence of Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
Cybercrime, drones among new challenges
Kharge said the programme aims to bring the NSG’s specialised experience and operational expertise to the Karnataka Police. He noted that crimes are rapidly changing, with cybercrime, online fraud, digital radicalisation, drone misuse and organised crime posing new challenges.
He said traditional policing methods alone are not sufficient and stressed the need for modern technology, specialised knowledge and rigorous training.
Karnataka Police will seek to adopt key NSG operational qualities such as speed, professionalism, secrecy and precision, he said.
Kharge also highlighted the need for coordination among intelligence, special forces, forensic, fire and civil administration agencies while dealing with major security threats such as terrorism.
The government is strengthening forensic capabilities, cyber investigations, data-driven policing and rapid-response systems, he added.
“Police should not only be the best warriors but also the best public servants,” Kharge said, stressing equality before the law and the government’s commitment to modernising the police force.
