Karnataka: NIA takes note of Pulakeshinagar blast, forensic report awaited

Bengaluru: The investigation into an explosion at an under-construction building in Pulakeshinagar has intensified, with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) reportedly taking note of the incident and seeking details from the local police.

Investigators are examining whether the blast, which occurred around 2.30 pm on October 20, was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) or batteries. Two workers were reportedly injured in the explosion at the five-storey building, and a case has been registered at the Pulakeshinagar police station.

A Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) team and experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have inspected the site. Police are awaiting the forensic report to establish the exact cause and nature of the explosion.

Investigators are also probing reports that an unidentified person called the building’s security guard before the incident and instructed him to place a parcel. The explosion reportedly occurred when the guard and a painter attempted to open it. Police are trying to establish the parcel’s origin, identify its sender and trace the person who made the call.

The Anti-Terror Cell (ATC) and local police are continuing the investigation, with further action expected after the forensic findings are received.

Minister Priyank Kharge said the samples had been sent for forensic analysis. “We are looking into this matter. All samples have been sent for forensic analysis. We will provide further details once the report is received,” he said.

The NIA’s reported involvement remains unclear, and the forensic findings are expected to help investigators determine the next course of action.
