Ranchi, July 27 (IANS) The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is probing alleged irregularities in the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Civil Services Examination and several other recruitment tests, has summoned former JPSC Chairman L. Khiangte for questioning on Tuesday.
Investigators are expected to question him on various aspects related to the recruitment process and conduct of the examinations.
Khiangte said he would fully cooperate with the investigating agency. He said the investigation is necessary and it will clear any doubt whether any irregularities took place.
He said he resigned because an impartial probe needed to take place.
Three days ago, CID officials conducted searches at Khiangte’s government residence on Kanke Road and at his office chamber in the JPSC headquarters in Ranchi. During the nearly five-hour operation, investigators examined several documents and carried out preliminary questioning.
As part of the ongoing probe, the CID also raided the office of the data processing company, the agency responsible for conducting the examinations.
During the investigation, officials seized recruitment-related documents, OMR sheets, and digital evidence from computers at the JPSC office. Several crucial records linked to the examination process were also taken into custody from the data processing company’s office.
So far, the CID has arrested eight people in connection with the case. Those arrested include former JPSC Deputy Examination Controller Shweta Kumari Gupta, data processing company’s Director Ramveer Singh, Marketing Manager Abhay Kumar Tiwari, and other employees of the company.
During the investigation, Arvind Mandal, a close associate of Abhay Tiwari, was also arrested from Poraiyahat in Godda district.
Khiangte assumed charge as JPSC Chairman on March 6, 2025. Prior to that, he had served as the Chief Secretary of the Jharkhand government. He resigned from the Chairman’s post following the CID raids.
The interrogation scheduled for Tuesday is seen as a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
