Investment push: Assam to have dedicated nodal officers for major projects, says CM Sarma

Guwahati, Sep 18 (IANS) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday assured investors of government support throughout the investment process, announcing that dedicated nodal officers will be appointed to facilitate projects from the initial groundwork to their eventual launch.

Speaking at the International Chamber of Commerce Global Business Summit 2026 here, CM Sarma highlighted the economic potential of Northeast India and called for greater investment in the region, emphasising its role in contributing to India’s broader development objectives.

“In Assam, the government stands ready to handhold every substantial investment project. I will appoint a dedicated nodal officer to guide firms through every stage of their journey, from groundwork to take-off,” the Chief Minister said.

He described the ICC Global Business Summit as an important platform that enabled the Northeast to showcase its development potential to a wider business audience.

He said the region has a significant role to play in India’s economic growth and underlined the potential of Northeast-focused development to provide momentum to the country’s overall progress.

Chief Minister Sarma also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s continued focus on the Northeast, saying that such platforms offered an opportunity to present the region’s economic prospects and investment opportunities before national and international stakeholders.

Emphasising the importance of facilitating investment, the Chief Minister’s announcement on appointing dedicated nodal officers seeks to provide businesses with a designated point of contact during different stages of project development.

Such coordination can help investors navigate administrative processes, address implementation-related concerns and work towards timely execution of projects, the Chief Minister said.

Chief Minister Sarma described the summit as a successful platform for discussions on the region’s future and invited businesses and individuals to explore opportunities across the Northeast.

The Chief Minister’s remarks come as Assam seeks to promote its investment potential and position the state as a destination for enterprises looking to expand their presence in the Northeast.

He reiterated the importance of strengthening the region’s contribution to India’s development while encouraging greater engagement between businesses and the government.

The summit provided a platform for Assam to outline its investment facilitation approach and highlight the economic opportunities available across the Northeast.
