Valsad/Navsari, July 24 (IANS) Power supply is expected to be restored by Friday night in most flood-affected villages of Valsad and Navsari districts, with work continuing in heavily damaged areas until Saturday, as the state government intensified relief and restoration efforts following record rainfall in South Gujarat.
Power restoration has been taken up on a war footing after floodwaters began receding in the two districts.
According to the state government, teams from electricity distribution companies and the local administration are working continuously to repair damaged electricity poles, transformers and power lines so that essential services can be restored as quickly as possible.
The government said power supply is expected to be reinstated by Friday night in the majority of affected villages.
In areas where electricity infrastructure has sustained extensive damage, restoration is targeted to be completed by Saturday. Senior officers have been deployed on the ground to oversee the restoration work.
IAS officer Raj Suthar is monitoring operations in Valsad district, while IAS officer Ketan Joshi is supervising efforts in Navsari. Both officers are stationed in the affected districts and are directly overseeing the progress of power restoration.
The administration said it remains committed to ensuring that relief measures and essential services reach every affected family at the earliest and appealed to residents to cooperate with officials and remain patient while restoration work is completed.
Later on Friday, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi visited flood-affected areas of Umargam taluka in Valsad district to assess the damage caused by the heavy rainfall.
According to the state government, Umargam received 42.56 inches of rain in a single day during the current monsoon, described as the highest one-day rainfall recorded in Valsad district’s history, resulting in widespread damage across several villages.
During the visit, Sanghavi inspected affected areas in Umargam, Bhilad, Satnala, and Dhodipada.
He directed the administration to complete damage surveys at the earliest and ensure that financial assistance reaches affected residents without delay.
The Deputy Chief Minister reviewed the overall situation with Umargam MLA Ramanlal Patkar and Pardi Sub-Divisional Officer Nirav Patel before interacting with residents to understand the extent of the flood damage.
He also instructed officials to take immediate steps to ensure that affected families receive government assistance promptly.
In addition, he directed the concerned departments to provide appropriate and timely support under government schemes to farmers, livestock rearers and all families affected by the rains.
Valsad MP and Lok Sabha Whip Dhaval Patel, District Organisation President Hemant Kansara, other public representatives and administrative officials accompanied Sanghavi during the visit.
