Former AIADMK Minister C. Vijayabaskar to join TVK, calls it ‘new beginning’ in political journey

Chennai, July 1 (IANS) Former Tamil Nadu Health Minister and former AIADMK MLA C. Vijayabaskar has officially announced that he will join Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay-led Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) on Thursday (July 2), marking another significant political gain for the ruling party as it continues to attract senior leaders from the opposition.

The induction ceremony is scheduled to be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday at the Four Points by Sheraton hotel in Mamallapuram, where Vijayabaskar will formally join the party in the presence of Chief Minister Vijay and senior TVK leaders.

A prominent leader from Pudukkottai district, Vijayabaskar represented the Viralimalai Assembly constituency and served as Tamil Nadu’s Health Minister in the previous AIADMK government.

He recently resigned from his Assembly membership, fuelling speculation over his political future. His announcement has now confirmed that he is set to join TVK.

In a statement issued ahead of the event, Vijayabaskar said his 35-year political career had been dedicated to public service and the welfare of the people. He said the experience gained over the years had strengthened his commitment to serving society.

Recalling his tenure as Health Minister, he said the people were well aware of the work carried out by his department during the Covid-19 pandemic, one of the most challenging public health crises in recent history.

He said he had worked with complete dedication during the pandemic to safeguard the lives of the people and ensure an effective response from the state.

Describing his move as the beginning of a new chapter in his political career, Vijayabaskar said he was joining TVK with renewed enthusiasm to make his public life more meaningful and continue serving the people of Tamil Nadu.

He praised Chief Minister Vijay’s leadership, stating that the government had secured overwhelming public support and was delivering good governance.

Joining TVK, he said, would provide him with an opportunity to contribute more effectively to the state’s development and the welfare of its people.

Vijayabaskar also invited media organisations to attend the induction ceremony, cover the proceedings and extend their support as he embarks on what he described as a new phase of his political journey. His induction is expected to further strengthen TVK’s growing ranks, with the party continuing to attract senior leaders from rival political parties following its rise to power in Tamil Nadu.
