New Delhi, Sep 16 (IANS) The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has advised residents of 145 Type-I quarters located in eight residential blocks at Valmiki Sadan in Panchkuian Road Area to vacate the dilapidated premises as a precautionary measure in the interest of public safety, an official said.

The decision, conveyed through the Municipal Housing Department, has been taken following a comprehensive structural assessment conducted by the NDMC’s Civil Engineering Department, which found the identified buildings to be structurally unsafe for habitation and beyond economical repair, the official said on Tuesday in a statement.

The affected residential blocks include four blocks of three storey constructed during 1965–66, comprising quarters from G-25 to G-51, F-25 to F-51 and S-25 to S-51, with a total of 81 quarters. And other four blocks of four storey constructed during 1985–86, comprising Block numbers 1 to 64, with a total of 64 quarters, the statement said.

In view of the deteriorated structural condition of these buildings and the potential risk to occupants, the NDMC has urged all residents to vacate the identified quarters at the earliest and extend full cooperation to the authorities during the evacuation process, it added.

The NDMC emphasised that the advisory has been issued purely as a preventive and precautionary measure, with the safety and well-being of residents being the highest priority.

The Council remains committed to ensuring public safety and will continue to take all necessary steps in accordance with technical assessments and established safety norms, the statement said.

The NDMC appeals to all affected occupants to cooperate with the administration so that timely action can be taken to safeguard lives and ensure public safety, it added.
