New Delhi, July 17 (IANS) Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra on Friday welcomed the ECI’s decision to extend the SIR deadline in the city, cautioning citizens against “misinformation” being spread by AAP and Congress leaders among Purvanchalis over alleged deletion of voters’ names.
The Delhi BJP President said it is unfortunate that AAP leaders continue to incite the Purvanchal community living in Delhi, as well as economically weaker sections residing in slum clusters, against the Bharatiya Janata Party.
In doing so, they forget that people from eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and several other states who have settled in Delhi have consistently elected BJP governments in their home states.
He asserted that AAP’s misinformation campaign will have no adverse impact on the Purvanchal community.
He said that although AAP leaders have raised the SIR issue in the name of the Purvanchal community, their real objective is to protect their Bangladeshi and Rohingya voters.
The Delhi BJP President added that people from every state, including a large number from the Purvanchal region, reside in Delhi. He said they can ensure their valid voter registration with the assistance of government BLOs and BJP’s BLA-2 representatives in their respective areas or BJP Purvanchal Morcha workers across various districts.
He said that the extended timeline for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls would enable Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to carry out their work with complete transparency.
The Delhi BJP President said that the SIR has two primary objectives: First, to ensure that no foreign national is registered as an Indian voter, and second, to ensure that every Indian citizen is registered as a voter at only one place.
Malhotra appealed to the people of Delhi not to fall prey to the misinformation being spread by Aam Aadmi Party and Congress leaders.
He said that no one can delete the vote of any Delhi resident registered only in Delhi, and the BJP will not allow such action.
