Dedicate it to countries fighting climate change: PM Modi on ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ in Seychelles

Victoria, June 28 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday thanked the people and the Government of Seychelles after being conferred the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’, Seychelles’ highest distinction for leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development.

He dedicated the award to the nations fighting against the challenge of climate change and consider environmental protection their responsibility towards future generations.

Taking to X, PM Modi said, “Grateful to the people and Government of Seychelles as well as President Herminie for conferring upon me the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’.”

“I humbly accept this honour and dedicate it to all those countries that are fighting the challenge of climate change and consider environmental protection their responsibility towards future generations. This is a pressing challenge which we have to overcome together,” he said.

Reaffirming New Delhi’s committment towards climate change, PM Modi said, “India, on its part, stands ready to do whatever is required in making our planet greener and sustainable. This is reflected in our various domestic policies, emphasis on Mission LiFE and global efforts like the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and more.”

The award acknowledges PM Modi’s long-standing push for sustainable growth and his green vision.

This is the latest in a series of global honours recognising PM Modi’s work on climate action, sustainable development, and green growth.

Prime Minister Modi has received over 30 prestigious international honours, making him the most internationally decorated Indian leader in history. This total spans state decorations, scholastic awards, and environmental accolades from nations and organisations across the globe.

PM Modi is currently on a three-day State visit to Seychelles.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi and Seychelles President Patrick Herminie held a meeting at State House in Seychelles.

Prior to the meeting, PM Modi was accorded a Guard of Honour at the State House.
