Chennai: DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran has launched a sharp political attack on rival parties over the Cauvery water dispute, the proposed Mekedatu dam, NEET and alleged political horse-trading, accusing leaders who remain silent on issues affecting Tamil Nadu of betraying the state’s interests.
In a strongly worded post on X, Maran alleged that some politicians compromise their principles for positions and power, describing them as “venomous snakes who sell their loyalty for posts.”
He said leaders visiting Tamil Nadu should clearly speak in favour of the state’s Cauvery water rights and oppose Karnataka’s proposed Mekedatu reservoir project. According to him, silence on these issues raises questions about their commitment to Tamil Nadu.
On NEET, Maran argued that merely highlighting alleged irregularities was insufficient and said parties claiming to represent Tamil Nadu should unequivocally demand the abolition of the entrance examination.
The former Union minister also referred to allegations of political horse-trading, accusing certain leaders of selectively criticising the BJP while ignoring similar allegations involving the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). He further alleged that the TVK government was displaying “fascist” tendencies by acting against critics, including over social media posts.
Maran also criticised the handling of anti-NEET protests, saying political leaders had failed to condemn police action against protesters. Concluding his remarks, he accused his political rivals of double standards and described their silence on key issues as a “great betrayal” of Tamil Nadu.
