Chikkamagaluru: BJP MLC and former minister C.T. Ravi has called for a comprehensive investigation into the alleged conspiracy to create unrest through a Telegram group in Chikkaballapur, including whether the two arrested persons had links to any organisation or wider network.
Ravi said police should establish who was behind the alleged activities and determine the background, motive and possible connections of those arrested.
According to police information cited in the report, two persons were arrested following discussions in a closed social media group involving allegedly provocative messages and suspected terror-related content. The investigation is examining their backgrounds, motives and whether there were any wider links.
Ravi alleges possible targeting
Ravi also spoke about the possibility of attempts to target people who speak publicly on issues including terrorism and what he referred to as “love jihad”.
“Awakening society is our responsibility. I am performing my duty of alerting society about potential threats. I am not someone who will run away out of fear of death,” Ravi said.
Seeks probe into wider links
Ravi said he had learnt about the police action through media reports and stressed that the investigation should establish the complete facts based on evidence gathered by the police.
He said names of people from areas including Hassan, Hoskote, Chikkaballapur and Kolar had reportedly surfaced in connection with the matter and urged investigators to establish whether the arrested persons acted individually or were linked to an organisation or network.
“Whether they are acting as individuals or whether there is an organisation behind them will become clear only after a comprehensive investigation,” Ravi said.
He also said the investigation should establish why he might have been targeted, while reiterating that he considered it his responsibility to alert society about alleged conspiracies and their possible consequences.
Any links between the arrested persons and a wider organisation or network will have to be established through the ongoing investigation, rather than assumptions based on the allegations, he said.
