New Delhi, Aug 25 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday asserted that several prominent Congress leaders refrained from posting and promoting Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chhatro Ki Goonj’ on their social media platforms as they know that it is a “pure PR stunt” and that the Rae Bareli MP has “no connect with the youth of India”.
BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari took to social media and shared a list of the Congress leaders, showing who did and did not post about Gandhi’s ‘Chhatro ki Goonj’ event.
“Congress leaders expose Rahul Gandhi’s Chhatro Ki Goonj! Even Congress Leaders know that Rahul Gandhi’s Chhatro Ki Goonj is a pure PR stunt; this is why not even 35 per cent of leaders have posted about it!” Bhandari said.
He claimed that out of 249 leaders in the Congress Working Committee (CWC), only 113 posted on X, 48 on Instagram and 83 did not post anywhere.
“This includes senior leaders like Manish Tiwari, Charanjeet Singh Channi & even many CWC members like Ajay Maken!” the BJP spokesperson said.
“Some in media may go ‘Gaga’ but even Senior Congress Leaders know – ‘Rahul has no connect with Youth of India’,” Bhandari added.
The ‘Chhatro Ki Goonj’ programme is a nationwide student movement and outreach initiative led by Rahul Gandhi to address key student concerns. It focuses on protesting paper leaks, exam irregularities, rising education fees, and raising issues related to student safety and women’s rights.
A major event was held in Pune, Maharashtra, on August 22, which saw a large gathering of students and young women interacting directly with leadership.
During this, the Rae Bareli MP addressed students, emphasising that women represent India’s greatest asset while launching a sharp critique against the ideology of the Manusmriti. Speaking under the event’s central theme ‘Pinjra Toda’ (Break the Cage), the Leader of Opposition said that women are bound to no one but themselves and reject patriarchal claims over them.
“I have not come here today to speak on politics,” Rahul Gandhi said while interacting with Gen Z students.
“When asked about India’s main strength, people point to the economy, the military, healthcare, or overall population. But my position is crystal clear: India’s 70 crore women are the nation’s greatest power,” he said.
Rahul Gandhi made a strong pitch for women’s empowerment, urging young women to break free from societal restrictions and assert their independent identity.
