Clashes between Sudan’s warring parties; 16 civilians killed

Nyala: A tragic incident in South Darfur State, Sudan, has resulted in the death of 16 civilians amid clashes between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). According to the professional lawyers’ organization, the casualties occurred when projectiles hit citizens’ homes during an exchange of artillery bombardment between the two armed groups in Nyala on Friday.

The situation in Nyala has escalated to a dangerous level, with armed confrontations occurring over the past three days. The battles have taken a toll on the city’s residents, as there have been reports of random shootings on the streets and at houses, along with killings using sniper bullets.

The affected neighborhoods, including Al-Wohda and Karari south of Nyala, have borne the brunt of the fighting. The association urgently called on both warring parties to halt the war immediately and refrain from targeting civilians, emphasizing the need to protect innocent lives.

Regrettably, the entire country has been witnessing deadly clashes between the Sudanese Army and the RSF, not only in Khartoum but also in other areas, since April 15. These confrontations have resulted in an alarming toll of more than 3,000 deaths and over 6,000 injuries, as reported by the Sudanese Health Ministry. Moreover, the conflict has led to the displacement of more than three million people, both within Sudan and beyond its borders, according to estimates by the United Nations.
