Kolkata, Aug 25 (IANS) West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President and the party’s Rajya Sabha member, Samik Bhattacharya, on Tuesday sent a message to the different organisational WhatsApp groups of the party’s state unit cautioning the party leaders and workers of disciplinary action if charges of corruption or involvement in corruption is proven against them.
In the message written in the form of a letter in Bengali, Bhattacharya had reminded the party leaders and workers of BJP’s “zero-tolerance” approach towards corruption.

“Dear all BJP workers and activists at the state, district, regional, mandal and booth-levels, brothers and sisters. Always remember that honesty, transparency and ideology are the main driving forces of the BJP,” the opening line of the message said.
In his message, Bhattacharya had also claimed that the “zero-tolerance policy” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the resolve to serve the nation are the main foundations of the BJP’s style of functioning.
“Recently, through letters and messages, information about some undesirable activities and irregularities by party workers at different levels has come to my attention. From the booth-level to the state level — this applies to any member: that if a person goes beyond the party’s policy and gets involved in any immoral or corrupt act, the party will never take responsibility for that,” the message said.
In the message, the State BJP President had clearly said that the party leadership will take strong disciplinary action against any party leader or any party worker at any level if there is even the slightest evidence of corruption or wrongdoing.
“Be very careful that your actions for personal gain do not tarnish the party’s image and the long-standing sacrifices of its workers. Always remember that public service is our only goal: It is the sole responsibility of every functionary within the party to work with complete transparency while maintaining the trust of the common people. Let us all work together with honesty and integrity to uphold the honour of the party,” Bhattacharya’s message said.
This is not the first time that Bhattacharya had issued caution in the matter.
However, this is for the first time, he had given any instruction in the matter to party workers and leaders at all levels through a WhatsApp message.
Previously, the West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and the state’s Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Paul, too, had issued similar notes of caution.
