Bihar: NDA rallies behind Neeraj Kumar at Patna Graduates’ MLC nomination

Patna, Oct 5 (IANS) JD(U) candidate Neeraj Kumar filed his nomination papers on Monday for the Bihar Legislative Council’s Patna Graduates’ constituency, with NDA leaders turning up in strength to signal their support for the party nominee.

Health Minister Nishant Kumar was among the NDA leaders present during the nomination process.

The show of support comes amid an intense contest for the Patna Graduates’ seat and ongoing political differences surrounding the constituency.

After filing his nomination, Neeraj Kumar expressed confidence in his electoral prospects and took an indirect swipe at his opponents without naming them.

He said a victory in the Patna Graduates’ constituency would not be merely an electoral success but would become a subject of discussion beyond Bihar.

“The impact of this victory would be felt from Patna to Delhi,” Neeraj Kumar said.

He added that political stature should not be measured merely by the position a person holds, but by the extent of support and goodwill enjoyed among different sections of society.

Neeraj Kumar said he might not have financial strength comparable to some of his opponents, but claimed that the affection and trust of the people were his biggest assets.

Taking another indirect dig at his rivals, he said he could become a target of jealousy or hostility but would never accept being an object of sympathy.

His remarks come against the backdrop of the ongoing political contest over the Patna Graduates’ seat, especially after JD(U) MLA Anant Singh openly supported Jan Suraaj candidate Anuj Singh.

Neeraj Kumar also praised Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Health Minister Nishant Kumar, comparing the two leaders to Lord Ram and Lakshman.

He said the NDA was moving forward in unity under their leadership and asserted that the alliance’s collective support for his candidature had strengthened his campaign.

Neeraj Kumar claimed that he was receiving support from different sections of society and said his victory would carry a political message beyond the outcome of a single Legislative Council seat.

Nishant Kumar, who attended the nomination event, pledged to campaign for Neeraj Kumar and called upon NDA leaders and workers to work together for his victory.

He said Neeraj Kumar had remained committed to the JD(U) for a long time and pointed to his experience as a three-time member of the Bihar Legislative Council.

Describing Neeraj Kumar as a leader committed to socialist ideology, Nishant Kumar said the NDA was united behind his candidature and expressed confidence that party workers and leaders would campaign collectively for him.

The presence of NDA leaders at the nomination filing and the statements made by Neeraj Kumar have added momentum to the contest for the Patna Graduates’ constituency, where the campaign is expected to intensify in the coming days.
