Patna, June 29 (IANS) Muzaffarpur police have solved a high-profile jewelry theft case that occurred during a wedding reception at the Muzaffarpur Club. Three accused involved in the theft have been arrested, and stolen cash and valuables worth several lakhs of rupees have been recovered.

According to City SP Mohibullah Ansari, the theft occurred on the night of June 22 during a reception ceremony at the Muzaffarpur Club, located under the Town Police Station area. The accused allegedly stole a bag containing cash and valuable jewelry from the venue.

Following the victim’s complaint, the Town Police Station registered a case (Case No. 354/26) and launched an investigation. Considering the sensitivity and high-profile nature of the incident, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted on the directions of the Senior Superintendent of Police.

The investigating team analysed CCTV footage and relied on technical surveillance and human intelligence to identify the suspects. During the investigation, police detained Rajesh Kumar Sah for questioning. During interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the theft. Based on his disclosures, police subsequently arrested Amit Kumar and Gopal Sah, Ansari said.

Rajesh Kumar Sah and Amit Kumar are residents of the Belsand police station area in Sitamarhi district, while Gopal Sah is a resident of Runnisaidpur in Sitamarhi district.

The trio used to attend wedding functions and receptions posing as guests. They would identify unattended bags containing cash and jewelry and flee after committing the theft, he said.

Police recovered several valuables from the accused, including Rs 1.60 lakh in cash, 15 gold ornaments, 2 diamond ornaments, and 2 silver ornaments. Investigators stated that the gang allegedly sold stolen jewelry in local markets.

According to the police, stolen jewelry worth approximately Rs 40 lakh has been recovered so far.

Police records indicate that some of the accused have prior criminal cases. A murder case has been pending against Rajesh Kumar Sah at the Parsauni police station in Sitamarhi district, while another case has been registered against him at the Dumra police station in the same district.

The accused also allegedly confessed to another theft committed during a wedding ceremony in Ayodhyapur on June 21.
