Kolkata, July 17 (IANS) The police have solved the mystery of the headless body found in the Hanskhoya tea garden in Bagdogra of North Bengal, and the missing severed head and the sharp weapon used in the murder have also been recovered.
The brutal murder of a husband has revealed a seven‑year‑long extramarital affair. The wife has been accused of murdering her husband of 10 years by calling him from another state after an argument.
Bagdogra police have arrested five people, including the wife of the deceased and her lover. When produced in the Siliguri Sub‑district Court on Thursday, the judge rejected their bail application and ordered seven‑day police custody.
Siliguri Police Commissioner Syed Waquar Raza said: “Five people have been arrested in the murder case. Initial investigation has revealed that this murder was committed due to an extramarital affair. Everything is being investigated.”
On Tuesday, while picking tea leaves in Section 9 of Hanskhoya Tea Garden near Siliguri, workers saw a headless body.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
The deceased was identified as Imam, a resident of Kishanganj in Bihar and a tantric by profession. His in‑laws are based in Siliguri.
Police arrested Imam’s wife, Momina Begum, and her boyfriend, Sudip Pal, a resident of Bagdogra. Sudip’s nephews Nitai Pal and Bapi Pal, along with their friend Kaushik Nath, were also arrested.
After questioning, the severed head and the murder weapon were recovered from an abandoned place in Phansidewa, about 5 km from where the body was found.
According to police, Sudip Pal had been having an extramarital affair with Momina Begum for seven years. When Imam opposed the affair, Momina and Sudip plotted to kill him. Sudip involved his nephews and their friend in the plan.
On Monday, Sudip called Imam from Kishanganj to Bagdogra.
Investigations suggest Imam was hacked to death with a sharp weapon while alive on Monday night, and his head was cut off to hide his identity.
The murder has created a stir in the area.
