Apple ‘iPhone SE 4’ may not launch in 2024

According to research notes from Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O’Malley, the launch of the iPhone SE 4 in 2024 may be delayed. The device was expected to feature an Apple-designed 5G modem, but it seems the plans have been postponed. Apple has been working on its own modem since 2018 and purchased Intel’s smartphone modem division in 2019 to support these efforts. However, it appears that Qualcomm will continue to be Apple’s modem provider for both the iPhone SE and the iPhone 16 series into next year, as Apple’s modem is not yet ready.

In February, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that the next iPhone SE would be similar to the normal iPhone 14, with a 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID, and flat corners. However, due to the apparent delay, Apple’s plans for the smartphone may change in the future. The new iPhone SE is now expected to be released no earlier than 2025, so the current model remains a safe buy for the time being.

Meanwhile, Apple’s recent patent application suggests that the company might be working on a rollable or scrollable iPhone. The patent application, released by the US Patent & Trademark Office, refers to a device with a display that can change into a rolled-up state for storage and an unrolled state for viewing. This indicates that future Apple products, including iPhones, iPads, televisions, desktop displays, and vehicle dashboards, could feature this technology. However, it’s important to note that patents do not guarantee the commercial release of a product, and Apple’s plans may change based on various factors.
