Mumbai: More than 600 internet experts, policymakers and technology leaders are gathering in Mumbai for APNIC 62, with artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and the need for resilient digital infrastructure set to dominate discussions on the future of the internet.
The 62nd APNIC Conference is being hosted by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) and the Internet Service Providers Association of India (ISPAI), with support from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Maharashtra government. The conference is being organised by the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC).
The September 4-10 conference will bring together network operators, technical experts and policymakers to discuss AI-powered services, network automation, cybersecurity, routing security and internet governance.
MeitY Joint Secretary Sushil Pal said India’s rapidly expanding digital ecosystem makes secure, resilient and future-ready internet infrastructure a key priority. He said APNIC 62 would provide an opportunity for India to strengthen engagement with the Asia Pacific technical community.
APNIC Director General Jia Rong Low said AI and other technological shifts are placing unprecedented demands on networks supporting economies and societies. He also highlighted India’s progress in IPv6 adoption.
A key development during the conference will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NIXI and APNIC on September 8.
The agreement will focus on promoting the deployment of IPv6 and routing security technologies, aimed at strengthening the security, resilience and long-term growth of India’s internet infrastructure.
NIXI CEO Devesh Tyagi said the conference would allow India to showcase its experience while learning from regional experts and strengthening international cooperation.
The opening ceremony will feature keynotes by Lightstorm Group CEO Amajit Gupta on AI-driven network automation and JPCERT/CC’s Yukako Uchida on trust and cooperation in cybersecurity.
APNIC 62 includes technical workshops, conference sessions, policy meetings and community events aimed at addressing the challenges facing the Asia Pacific internet ecosystem.
