Abhishek Banerjee submits documents to police in a traffic violation case

Kolkata, July 5 (IANS) Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday sent documents to Kalighat police station in a case of violation of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. The police had asked for several documents from the Diamond Harbour MP.

On Sunday, his representative went to the police station and submitted the documents.

However, according to sources, the documents are incomplete. Not everything that was asked for was given. Therefore, the police may send another notice to Abhishek, seeking the rest of the documents.

It may be noted that Abhishek was asked to submit the documents by Saturday. But the police did not receive the documents within the specified time limit. After the time expired, the MP sent the documents to the police station.

On Wednesday (July 1), an FIR was lodged against Abhishek Banerjee at Kalighat police station in south Kolkata, based on a complaint lodged by a resident of Baguiati named Rajiv Sarkar. He alleged that security guards were driving Abhishek’s car in a dangerous manner which violates several sections as per Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The person alleged that according to the Motor Vehicle Act (Section 123), no driver or passenger can travel in a moving vehicle while hanging. Secondly, according to Section 184, dangerous driving in a moving vehicle is a punishable offence. Therefore, the complainant has demanded appropriate action against Abhishek in this incident.

A case has been registered against Abhishek under Sections 281 (any person driving or riding a vehicle on a public way in a rash or negligent manner that endangers human life or is likely to cause injury), 125 (rash driving), 223 (disobedience of lawful orders) and 3(5) (common intention) of BNS and relevant sections of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

It is worth mentioning that Abhishek Banerjee is already facing corruption charges. He has been under the scanner of Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a long time. The signature mismatch case and his controversial “DJ will be played after May 4” remark case have increased his discomfort.

Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has withdrawn Abhishek’s protection in the defamation case filed by BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya’s son Akash Vijayvargiya. There have also been allegations of corruption against his ‘Sebaashray’ health camps which he started for the people of Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency.
