Mumbai, July 1 (IANS) Actress Shilpa Shirodkar has shared an interesting behind-the-scenes anecdote from the sets of her film “Gopi Kishan.”
During her appearance on the reality show ‘India’s Best Dancer Season 5,’ she recalled how she had to share the makeup room with co-actor Suniel Shetty after the arrival of Karisma Kapoor on set. She revealed that initially, she was sharing a makeup room with Suniel. However, when Karisma Kapoor joined the shoot and learned about the arrangement, she insisted that Shilpa should not have to share her space in that way. Karisma then chose to share the makeup room with Shilpa instead.
Recalling the first day of shooting at the historic Bhalla Bungalow on Hill Road, Shilpa Shirodkar narrated, “Actually, it’s a makeup room ki story hain yeh. Main aapko ek episode sunana chahti hoon aur mujhe nahi pata ki Lolo ko bhi yeh yaad hain ke nahi hain. Hum logon ne Gopi Kishan ki shoot ki thi ek bungalow hua karta tha Bhalla Bungalow, Hill Road pe. Toh uss time pe na hum logon ke yahan vanity vans kuch nahi the, toh makeup room jo production deta tha usmein hum log shoot karte the. Toh Bhalla Bungalow mein sirf doh makeup room the aur mera aur Sunil ka, hamare ghar ka sequence tha jahan pe Lolo was coming for one day.” (“Actually, this is a story about the makeup room. I want to share an incident with you, and I don’t even know if Lolo remembers it or not. We were shooting Gopi Kishan at a bungalow called Bhalla Bungalow on Hill Road. Back then, we didn’t have vanity vans, so we used the makeup rooms provided by the production for shooting. At Bhalla Bungalow, there were only two makeup rooms—one for me and Sunil. We were shooting a home sequence when Lolo was supposed to come for one day.”)
She added by saying, “Hum logon ne already shoot shuru kar di thi, poori unit was already known to each other and Lolo had signed the film and that was her first day on the set. Toh suddenly there was this buzz, production team comes and he says, ‘Ma’am, problem hain.’ Maine kaha kya ho gaya? He says, ‘Karisma ma’am kal shoot pe aa rahi hain.’ Maine kaha accha? Toh voh bolein, ‘Nahi ma’am, kya hain na ki doh hi room hain’. Maine kaha haan koi problem nahi hain, Sunil can share the room with me. Change hi karna hain, whatever, you know we can go in and out and we’ll be fine. Aap Karisma ma’am ko ek room de doh. Toh joh badi room thi aur acchi room thi, woh hum logon ne Karisma ma’am ke liye ready kar di.” (“We had already started shooting, and the entire unit was well-acquainted with each other. Lolo had signed the film, and it was going to be her first day on set. Suddenly, there was a buzz, and the production team came and said, ‘Ma’am, there’s a problem.’ I asked, ‘What happened?’ He said, ‘Karisma ma’am is coming for the shoot tomorrow.’ I said, ‘Oh, okay?’ Then he added, ‘The issue is that there are only two rooms.’ I said, ‘No problem, Suniel can share the room with me. We can manage a change; we can go in and out easily, it’ll be fine. Please give Karisma ma’am one room.’ So we prepared the bigger and better room for Karisma ma’am.”)
Following this, Shilpa recalled, “Phir hum logon ne shoot shuru kar di, Lolo set pe aayi. And later she got to know all of us, she asked us a question ki, ‘Doh hi room hai toh Sunil kahan hain? ‘ Toh maine kaha nahi, we knew you were coming toh Sunil and I were sharing the room, toh she said, ‘That’s not right. Why should Sunil have to share with you? I will share the room with you.’ And she and I actually shared the makeup room. For all the world joh log kehte the ki Karisma tantrums throw karti hain, we gave the room to Suniel and we shared the other room. ( “Then we resumed the shoot, and Lolo came on set. After getting to know all of us, she asked, ‘If there are only two rooms, then where is Sunil staying?’ I told her, ‘No, since we knew you were coming, Sunil and I were sharing a room.’ She immediately said, ‘That’s not right. Why should Sunil have to share with you? I will share the room with you.’ And in the end, she and I actually shared the makeup room. For all those who used to say that Karisma throws tantrums, we ended up giving the room to Sunil, and she and I shared the other room)
Shilpa went on to add, “Main manti hoon har insaan ki ek equation hoti hain dusre insaan ke sath ek chemistry bann jati hain and that’s how the world should be and you set your opinions with your own examples and not others.” (“I believe that every person has a certain equation with another person, and a natural chemistry develops between them—and that is how the world should be. You should form your opinions based on your own experiences and examples, not those of others.”)
“Gopi Kishan,” the 1994 comedy film directed by Mukesh Duggal, starred Sunil Shetty in dual roles. The movie also featured Shilpa Shirodkar and Karishma Kapoor, Suresh Oberoi, Aruna Irani, Mohan Joshi, Shammi, Satyendra Kapoor, and Mushtaq Khan. The film is a remake of K. Bhagyaraj’s hit Tamil film “Avasara Police 100.”
