2027 UP polls: CEC Gyanesh Kumar arrives in Lucknow; to meet students, teachers, and BLOs

Lucknow, Aug 24 (IANS) Ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, a delegation of the Election Commission of India (ECI), led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, arrived in Lucknow on Monday for a two-day visit to promote transparency and explain the electoral process to the voters of the state.

Speaking to reporters upon arrival, the Chief Election Commissioner said, “Lucknow has been my land of penance; I did my education from here and then went to IIT for higher education. I have returned to Lucknow, my place of work, after a long time, to convey a message to the voters of Uttar Pradesh.”

“In particular, we will speak to our Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who are the foundation of democracy, and explain some important things to them. Programs will also be organised in universities and schools across Uttar Pradesh to promote transparency and explain the entire electoral process,” he further mentioned.

The purpose of this Election Commission delegation’s visit to Uttar Pradesh is to review the initial preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections and assess the functioning of the electoral machinery at the grassroots level.

CEC Gyanesh Kumar will interact with students at the Avadh Auditorium of his alma mater Colvin Taluqdars’ College in Lucknow.

Later, he will attend the regional conference on Electoral Literacy Club (ELC 2.0) and ECINET as the chief guest at the Jupiter Hall of the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow.

This regional conference on ELC 2.0 and ECINET will be held in three phases in Lucknow, Meerut, and Varanasi.

The first phase will begin in Lucknow and cover 20 districts. Approximately 1,500 students, teachers, principals, and heads of educational institutions from 440 institutions across 120 assembly constituencies in these districts will participate.

The program will aim to engage youth with the electoral process and enhance their understanding of elections.
