Deoria, Aug 1 (IANS) Two wanted robbers were arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district following an encounter with the police during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, officials said.
During the exchange of fire, one of the accused sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Two illegal country-made pistols and ammunition were recovered from the accused. The police are currently initiating further legal action in the matter.
According to officials, the police were conducting a night check in the Khukhundu police station area of Deoria when two suspects attempted to flee upon seeing the police. The police team immediately took action to apprehend them, leading to an encounter.
In retaliatory fire, the police shot and injured one of the miscreants. His accomplice was also arrested at the scene. The accused have been identified as Kaleem Sheikh and Musafir Shah.
Sunil Kumar Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police (Deoria South), stated that a search of the duo yielded two illegal country-made pistols, two spent cartridges, two live cartridges, two mobile phones, a motorcycle, and a gold necklace that had been looted.
The injured accused has been sent to the hospital for initial treatment.
Separately, in Maharajganj district, the police arrested a smuggler who was planning to send goods to Nepal.
Acting on precise information from an informant, a joint police and administrative team, led by the Nautanwa SDM and the Nautanwa Circle Officer, raided a location in the Bhundi neighbourhood of Nautanwa.
During the operation, nine sacks of fertiliser, bundles of clothing, and a large quantity of hookah-related materials were seized from the site.
The administrative team confiscated the recovered items and initiated an investigation regarding the premises.
Officials stated that strict legal action under relevant sections is being taken against those involved in the matter.
