The Twitter blue bird logo has been replaced with a new ‘X’ logo on the platform’s web version.
Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, had been hinting at a significant change on the platform through a series of tweets starting on Sunday. He mentioned bidding farewell to the Twitter brand and gradually removing all references to birds.
Now, the Twitter blue bird logo has been replaced with a new ‘X’ logo on the platform’s web version. Musk also changed the official account’s name on Twitter to ‘X’ and updated the profile picture accordingly. He even shared an image of Twitter’s headquarters with the new logo displayed and captioned it, “Our headquarters tonight.”
On Sunday, Musk revealed that “X.com” now directs to “twitter.com”. He seemed intrigued by the letter ‘X’ and found subtle clues leading to its selection appealing.
When a user asked about the new term for retweeting, Musk responded that the concept should be rethought entirely. Additionally, he initiated a poll to consider changing the platform’s default color to black.
In a conversation with technology influencer Marques Brownlee, who stated that he would continue to call it Twitter, Musk hinted that this won’t be the case for long.
Regarding what Twitter users will be called after the name change, the tech billionaire stated, “We will have no name.”
Musk confirmed that once the platform’s name changes, a tweet will be referred to as “an X”.
Meanwhile, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino expressed that having the opportunity for a second chance to make a significant impact is rare in life or business. She believes that Twitter had already made a massive impression by transforming the way we communicate. Now, with the advent of X, the platform will go further, creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities with unlimited interactivity centered around audio, video, messaging, payments/banking.
Yaccarino mentioned that they have seen X taking shape over the past 8 months through their rapid feature launches.
