Agartala, Oct 14 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday said that 23,986 people had been employed in government services since the BJP-led double-engine government came to power in the state in 2018, asserting that transparency, impartiality and merit remained the guiding principles of the recruitment process.
Distributing appointment letters to 1,452 teachers at a programme in Agartala, Saha said another 26,000 people had received employment opportunities through contractual appointments and outsourcing to meet staffing requirements in various government departments.
“Since the establishment of the double-engine government in the state in 2018, the highest priority has been accorded to transparency, impartiality and merit in the recruitment process,” the Chief Minister said. He added, “During our government’s tenure, a total of 23,986 people have been employed in government services, including under the die-in-harness scheme, while another 26,000 people have received job opportunities through contractual appointments and outsourcing.”
The latest recruitment drive includes 766 teachers who qualified in the Teachers’ Eligibility Test-II (TET-II) and 686 teachers selected through the Selection Test for Graduate Teachers (STGT). “Continuing this commitment, today handed over appointment letters to another 1,452 teachers, including 766 TET-II-qualified teachers and 686 STGT teachers,” Saha said.
Expressing confidence in the newly appointed teachers, he said they would play a significant role in educating the next generation and contributing to the national development vision. “I am confident that these newly appointed teachers will play a significant role in spreading the light of education among the next generation and contributing to the vision of building a Viksit Bharat by 2047,” the Chief Minister said.
Speaking to reporters after distributing the appointment letters, Saha criticised the opposition for allegedly encouraging job aspirants to stage road protests, maintaining that his government was continuing recruitment to meet staffing requirements across departments.
He said the government had provided employment through direct recruitment and compassionate appointments since coming to power in 2018 and would continue recruitment, particularly in the education sector. The Chief Minister said the latest recruitment drive also covered Assistant Professor posts in the Higher Education and School Education departments, along with appointments in the Youth Affairs and Sports Department.
The recruitment of graduate teachers includes posts for teaching Classes VI to VIII and Classes IX to X.
On the demand for appointments of candidates who had qualified in the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET), Saha said the government would continue the recruitment process. However, he noted that the TET-I recruitment process had been held up due to a case pending before the Tripura High Court.
Congratulating the newly appointed teachers, Saha urged them to discharge their responsibilities with dedication and contribute to students’ academic development and society. He also highlighted the need to adopt modern teaching methods, including smart classrooms and research facilities, while noting that traditional classroom teaching continued to have its own importance.
On the occasion, Saha also distributed scooters to meritorious girl students under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana.
