Taraji P. Henson signed for ‘Why Did I Get Married Again?’

Los Angeles, July 3 (IANS) Hollywood actress Taraji P. Henson has joined the cast of the upcoming film ‘Why Did I Get Married Again?’. Filmmaker Tyler Perry recently made the revelation about the actress coming onboard for the film.

The film is set to release on September 9, 2026, and also stars Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Michael Jai White, Tasha Smith and Sharon Leal, reports ‘People’ magazine.

Images from the comedy-drama, accessed by ‘People’, reveal that the new story takes place at a fabulous wedding in Lake Como, Italy.

The film is a follow-up to ‘Why Did I Get Married?’ and ‘Why Did I Get Married Too?’, and centers on the wedding of Marcus and Angela Williams’ daughter.

Tyler Perry, 56, and Sharon Leal, 53, can be seen as Terry and Dianne Brock, respectively, one of the many, smartly dressed, married couples grappling with new realities in ‘Why Did I Get Married Again?’.

An official synopsis from Netflix reads, “After being apart for quite some time”, the group learns “quickly that as much as things change, they stay the same. Realizing their children have grown up to be so much like them, they must reflect on the examples they’ve set and ask themselves that age-old question, why did they get married… again?”.

Tyler Perry told ‘People’, “Introducing this new generation of characters gave us an opportunity to give the kids an opportunity to shine and go through things and eventually realize they’re not perfect and neither were their parents”.

By reuniting the gang years later, which “felt like putting on a warm robe”, he said, the sequel “lent itself to realizing where we all are in life”.

As per ‘People’, the writer-director pointed out of his “reunion” with the returning cast, they’ve all personally grown up and changed and lived lives.

“Some have gotten married, some have gotten divorced, some are happy in long-term relationships. Just like these characters being older, we are older and we became the people that we were trying to be when we made the first movie almost 20 years ago”, he added.
