Mumbai, Aug 11 (IANS) Celebrated singer Sonu Nigam opened up about going back to his roots with his latest Haryanavi track ‘Chunni’ during an exclusive conversation with IANS.
Sonu Nigam shared that Haryana holds a very special place in his heart as it is the place where not just he, but other members of his family, such as his father and sister, have also spent their childhood.
He was asked, “Life seems to have come full circle for you, as you have contributed to the place where you were born and raised. What are your thoughts about this?”
The singer shared that God chooses the place we are born in for a special reason.
Sonu Nigam told IANS, “Whichever place God chooses for us as our birthplace, there must be a reason behind it. There must be some connection. So, out of all the places I got the great fortune to be born in Faridabad, Haryana. My sister was also born there, and my father’s entire childhood was spent in Faridabad. So, naturally, Haryana is an extremely special state for us.”
Shedding further light on the ‘Chunni’ track, he went on to add, “Back in school days, a lot of my friends were also Haryanvi, so we grew up hearing the Haryanvi language a lot. We were always able to understand the language, but did not use to speak it much. But for the song, we were required to speak the language in a proper manner. Aamin Barodi, who has written the lyrics of the track, he has great knowledge of music, along with a good thought process. So I requested him to help me with the details.”
The romantic track ‘Chunni’ features the soulful voice of Sonu Niga, along with Renuka Panwar.
Written and composed by Aamin Barodi, the music video of the Haryanavi number features Charmee Zaveri.
