Bengaluru: KPCC Media and Communications Department chairman Ramesh Babu on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Karnataka BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra, accusing him of politicising the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and making what he termed “irresponsible” remarks against Congress leaders.
In a statement, Ramesh Babu alleged that Pradhan’s resignation had come in the wake of nationwide protests by students and youth over the NEET-UG 2026 controversy and criticised Vijayendra for linking the development to political motives instead of acknowledging the concerns raised by students.
He also accused Vijayendra of targeting KPCC president B.K. Hariprasad and Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge for political reasons, alleging that the BJP leader was attempting to divert attention from issues facing the Centre.
Ramesh Babu further alleged that the BJP-led government at the Centre had failed to safeguard the interests of students and claimed that widespread dissatisfaction had triggered protests across the country. He said the BJP should have apologised to students instead of criticising Congress leaders.
The Congress leader also accused Vijayendra of trying to strengthen his political position within the BJP by repeatedly attacking the Congress. Referring to internal differences within the BJP, Ramesh Babu claimed that Vijayendra had not responded to allegations levelled against him by leaders from his own party.
He also made allegations linking Vijayendra to the recent egg-throwing incident involving Harihar MLA Harish, claiming the BJP state chief had failed to condemn the episode because of internal political rivalries. No evidence was provided to support the allegation.
Ramesh Babu further alleged that Vijayendra was criticising Congress leaders in an attempt to retain the confidence of the BJP leadership and suggested that he should resign as the party’s state president if he was unable to effectively lead the organisation.
