Pawan Kalyan Seeks Swift Compensation for Fishermen, Weavers Hit by Cyclone Arnab

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has urged the state government to expedite compensation for fishermen and weavers affected by Cyclone Arnab, highlighting extensive damage to boats and livelihoods along the Uppaada coast.

Participating virtually in a state Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Kalyan raised concerns over the losses suffered by fishing communities in coastal areas.

He said 40 fishing boats along the Uppaada coast had been damaged, while another 117 boats belonging to Uppaada fishermen were affected in coastal areas falling under Konaseema district. He urged the government to assess the damage and release compensation at the earliest.

Kalyan also called for swift relief to fishermen across the state who had lost boats, nets and other fishing equipment due to the cyclone.

Highlighting the impact on weavers in the Uppaada region, he said heavy rain had led to water entering looms and disrupted power supply, threatening their livelihoods. He requested an assessment of the losses and suitable financial assistance for the affected weavers.

During the meeting, Kalyan praised Naidu’s handling of the cyclone situation, particularly the coordination among government departments following the issuance of weather warnings. He commended the measures taken to evacuate people from low-lying areas, arrange facilities at relief centres and keep emergency services on standby.

He also appreciated the efforts of Cabinet colleagues, district collectors, police superintendents and officials from various departments involved in relief and rescue operations.
