Noida: Five women held for drug smuggling, 6.1 kg cannabis seized

Noida, July 17 (IANS) The Gautam Buddha Nagar Police, intensifying its campaign against the drug trade, apprehended five women on Friday for alleged involvement in cannabis smuggling and also its sale and purchase.

A total of 6.1 kg of illegal cannabis was recovered from their possession. All the arrested women have been booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and legal proceedings are underway.

The police are investigating the ‘origin source’ of the cannabis and the network through which it reached Gautam Buddha Nagar. According to the police, Noida police of Sector-20 received inputs from local intelligence and beat policing, and swooped down on the drug network in a park in Sector-18, from where they arrested at least five women associates.

The arrested women were identified as Neha (wife of Kaluram), Prema (wife of Ram Bhajan), Bindiya alias Sonakshi (wife of Arbe Singh), Lakshmi (wife of Tilak), and Sushila alias Karishma (wife of Vishwa Deep).

Interrogation revealed that Neha, Prema, and Bindiya alias Sonakshi hailed from Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh, while Lakshmi and Sushila are originally from Agra and currently residing in the Kalyanpuri area of ​​Delhi.

During the search, the police recovered a total of 6.1 kg of illegal cannabis, which has been seized.

The investigation also revealed that several of these had past criminal records.

A case regarding theft and possession of stolen property is registered against Neha in Lucknow. Bindiya alias Sonakshi faces multiple charges in Delhi, including robbery, theft, and other criminal offences.

Lakshmi has a theft-related case registered against her in Etawah, while Sushila alias Karishma has multiple prior cases registered at various police stations in Agra for theft, robbery, and related offences.

Based on the interrogation of these arrested women, the police are gathering information regarding their network, suppliers, and potential buyers. If the involvement of other individuals linked to this gang comes to light, action will be taken against them as well.
