Ranchi, Jan 23 (IANS) Aditya Sahu, Jharkhand’s newly elected president of the BJP, formally assumed charge on Friday. During the ceremony, he asserted that the state is a fertile ground for the party and expressed confidence that a “double engine” government will be formed in the state.
Earlier in the day, Sahu offered prayers at the state BJP office on the occasion of Saraswati Puja. Addressing party leaders and workers after taking charge, he said the BJP’s greatest strength lies in its committed and energetic cadre.
“On this auspicious day of Vasant Panchami, let us all resolve to strive and struggle to bring good governance to Jharkhand,” Sahu said, adding, “It is certain that we will once again form a strong double-engine government in the state under the leadership of the BJP.”
Outlining his priorities as party president, the state BJP chief said his focus would be on strengthening the organisation and taking the party’s ideology to every village and every individual across Jharkhand.
Expressing gratitude to party workers, Sahu said it was their trust and support that had led to his elevation.
“I began my political journey as a booth-level worker, and today I have been entrusted with the responsibility of state president. This reflects the organisational culture of the BJP,” he said.
Sahu also paid tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary, recalling his deep association with Jharkhand. “Netaji raised his voice against British rule from this land. Remembering him today, we should resolve to struggle for a new identity for Jharkhand,” he said.
Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi praised Sahu’s organisational experience, noting that he had worked extensively within the party and risen through the ranks from the booth level. “Given his long association with the organisation, he does not require any special guidance,” Marandi said.
He also remarked that separating the responsibilities of the state party president and the leader of the legislative party would help the organisation function more effectively.
A large number of senior BJP leaders and workers were present at the event, including State Organisation General Secretary Karmveer Singh, former state presidents Yadunath Pandey and Dr Ravindra Kumar Ray, MP Deepak Prakash, State General Secretary and MP Dr Pradeep Verma, and State Vice President Balmukund Sahay.
