Bhopal, June 11 (IANS) Bhopal police arrested two men wanted in multiple criminal cases during a coordinated raid at Irani Dera in Aman Colony on the night of June 10, police officials said on Thursday.
According to police, the operation was carried out to trace the absconding accused and execute pending warrants under the supervision of senior police officials.
A team of around 40 personnel from Nishatpura, Chhola Mandir, and Gandhinagar police stations took part in the search, conducted on the instructions of Police Commissioner Sanjay Singh.
Police identified the first man arrested as Salig alias Rehan Irani. He is listed as a “surveillance criminal” at Nishatpura police station, a category used for habitual offenders who are kept under regular watch. Officials said Salig had been evading arrest by staying in the dera for a long period. The settlement has been under police watch due to the presence of persons with criminal records.
According to police records, 24 cases are registered against Salig across various districts, including Bhopal. The charges against him include robbery, theft, fraud, assault and attempted murder. “A total reward of Rs 17,000 had been announced for the accused across different cases,” a police official said. In addition to the rewards, a court had also issued an arrest warrant against him.
The second man arrested was Rizwan Hussain. He was taken into custody in connection with a case from Panna district, police said. Police said 15 cases are registered against Rizwan in Madhya Pradesh and other states. The charges include theft, robbery, fraud and assault.
“Both accused have been taken into custody and are being interrogated. The interrogation could yield crucial information regarding other crimes and connections to other gang members,” the official said.
Police added that they are continuously monitoring the activities of suspected criminals residing in Irani Dera. Officials said regular search operations and surveillance have contributed to a decline in incidents of mobile snatching and property-related crimes in areas under the Nishatpura police station.
The raid caused a brief disturbance in the locality but ended without any law-and-order issues, police said. Officials added that similar operations will continue to trace absconders and execute pending warrants across the city.
