MP: Twisha Sharma’s family seeks second autopsy outside Bhopal

Bhopal, May 19 (IANS) In a fresh development, Twisha Sharma’s family on Tuesday filed an application before a district court in Bhopal seeking urgent permission for a second post-mortem of her body at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, alleging lapses and possible interference in the first autopsy conducted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal.

The application was moved before Judge Anudita Gupta, seeking immediate direction for a second post-mortem.

The family demanded that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal, where the first post-mortem was conducted after her death, be directed to transfer the body to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.

The application sought “immediate direction to AIIMS Bhopal, local administration, investigating authorities and all concerned authorities for scientific preservation, protection and safeguarding of mortal remains and forensic evidence in the interest of fair, impartial and transparent investigation into the matter”.

Citing the first post-mortem report, the family stated in the application that multiple injuries over other parts of her body were noted, and ligature material was neither present nor submitted by the investigating officer for examination. A double ligature mark running parallel in the form of a pattern, reddish pressure abrasion.

The family has also demanded verification of the Closed-Circuit Television footage of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal.

They claimed that during the post-mortem at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal, Twisha’s mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, was accompanied by her sister, Dr Rajbala Singh Bhadoria, a medical doctor at Bansal Hospital in Bhopal.

Another relative, Dr Yashveer J.K., a well-known doctor in Bhopal, was also present.

“Their presence at the hospital was solely to intimidate the medical staff and influence the outcome of the post-mortem examination to conceal the true nature of the crime,” the application accessed by IANS stated.

The court is likely to decide on the matter on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Twisha’s brother, Major Harshit Sharma, questioned the police response and alleged influence in the case.

“The first call made to the police was by us, not by them. They claimed they were in a hurry trying to save her, but the video that has resurfaced clearly shows Giribala Singh moving around very calmly, walking up and down the stairs as if she had all the time in the world,” he said while addressing the press on Tuesday.

He further alleged that despite having full knowledge of the judiciary, she had every opportunity and ability to call the police station, which was just 30 seconds away from her home.

Twisha Sharma, a 31-year-old former model, was found hanging at her in-laws’ house in Bhopal on May 12, barely five months after marrying advocate Samarth Singh.

Samarth Singh has been absconding since May 12.

Bhopal Police have issued a lookout notice against Samarth Singh and initiated proceedings to revoke his passport, suspecting that he might flee abroad.

Multiple teams have been deployed to trace him within Madhya Pradesh and outside the state.
