MP: Brother-in-law arrested for Narmadapuram man’s murder

Narmadapuram, June 26 (IANS) Police have solved the murder of a 35-year-old man whose blood-soaked body was found in a dilapidated house in Madhya Pradesh’s Narmadapuram district earlier this week, arresting his brother-in-law for the crime on Friday.

The accused, identified as Ghanshyam Malviya, allegedly confessed during questioning that he killed Sanjay Malviya following a dispute over land.

Ghanshyam, a resident of Narsinghpur district, had been living at Sanjay’s house for the past four years.

Briefing reporters on Friday, a senior police officer said the breakthrough came after investigators developed suspicion over Ghanshyam’s role during the probe.

“During the investigation, it emerged that there was an ongoing land dispute between Sanjay and his brother-in-law, Ghanshyam. He was brought in for questioning, during which he confessed to the murder,” the officer said.

According to police, on the night of June 24, the two allegedly had another argument over the land dispute.

During the altercation, Ghanshyam attacked Sanjay with a basula, a sharp-edged woodworking tool, striking him three times on the neck.

Sanjay died on the spot due to excessive bleeding, police said.

The case came to light on June 24 morning when villagers discovered Sanjay’s blood-stained body inside a dilapidated house located about 50 feet from his residence in Kotgaon village.

The gruesome murder created panic in the area, following which local police, along with a forensic science laboratory (FSL) team, reached the spot and began collecting evidence.

Sanjay, son of Sukhdev Malviya, worked at a private marriage garden in Makhannagar to support his family.

During the initial investigation, police learnt that he had an altercation with Ghanshyam on the night before his body was found, prompting investigators to focus on the family dispute angle.

“The accused used a sharp-edged basula to attack the victim repeatedly on the neck, causing fatal injuries. The weapon has been recovered, and further investigation is underway,” the police officer said.

Police said the accused has been arrested and booked for murder, while further investigation is continuing to complete the legal formalities and establish all circumstances leading to the crime.
