Imphal, July 24 (IANS) Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad K. Sangma on Friday held a meeting in Imphal and discussed ways to strengthen inter‑state cooperation, promote development and enhance initiatives aimed at ensuring peace and harmony.
A senior official of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said Khemchand Singh warmly received Sangma at the Chief Minister’s bungalow at Babupara, where the two leaders held a cordial meeting. “The leaders exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening inter‑state cooperation and development, including initiatives to promote peace and harmony,” the official said.
After the meeting, Khemchand Singh, in a post on his X handle, said: “Today, I extended a warm welcome to the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Shri Conrad K. Sangma, along with NPP State President Lorho S. Pfoze and five Hon’ble MLAs of the NPP, on their cordial visit to my official bungalow, where we exchanged compliments and goodwill.”
He added that the NPP had certain aspirations communicated through a memorandum, which he would give prompt attention and consideration. “I am confident that we will continue to uphold our shared values and common vision for sustainable development and inclusive growth,” the Manipur Chief Minister said.
Conrad K. Sangma is also the National President of the National People’s Party (NPP), which heads the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government in the hill state.
Manipur Minister for Art and Culture and Tourism Loken Khuraijam Singh, NPP Manipur President Lorho S. Pfoze and party MLAs Thongam Shanti Singh, Mayanglambam Rameshwar Singh and Janghemlung Panmei were also present during the meeting.
The NPP, which had won seven seats in the 60‑member Manipur Assembly, currently has six MLAs.
Earlier in the day, Sangma inaugurated the NPP’s newly constructed state office at Mercy Lane in Mantripukhri in the presence of party leaders, legislators and office‑bearers. The NPP national president arrived in Imphal on Friday on a two‑day visit to attend the party’s annual convention in Manipur.
The inauguration of the party office was held ahead of the NPP’s annual convention, scheduled to take place on Saturday at the MSFDS Complex in Imphal.
Addressing party workers after inaugurating the office, Sangma said the new state office would serve as an important centre for strengthening the party’s organisational structure in Manipur. He congratulated the Manipur unit for completing the office building on schedule and appreciated the efforts of party leaders and workers in establishing the new facility.
Sangma also urged party members to remain committed to the NPP’s vision and continue working collectively to strengthen the organisation across the state.
Later, in a post on his X handle, the Meghalaya Chief Minister said: “Happy to be back in Imphal, Manipur, to inaugurate our new party office, an important step in strengthening our mission and deepening our connect with the people. Also held detailed consultations with our party office‑bearers, MLAs and functionaries to review our work, discuss priorities and chart the way forward with renewed commitment and unity. Together, we remain dedicated to serving the people of Manipur and working with them for the peace, progress and prosperity of the state.”
