Khesari Lal Yadav meets BJP chief Nitin Nabin in Patna, sparks political talks in Bihar

Patna, May 24 (IANS) A meeting between Bhojpuri film star and singer Khesari Lal Yadav and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Nabin has triggered intense political speculation in Bihar, with discussions emerging over whether the popular entertainer may be preparing to shift political loyalties from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) to the BJP.

The buzz intensified on Saturday after photos of the meeting surfaced publicly, leading to widespread speculation across political circles and social media.

Khesari Lal Yadav has long been regarded as a close supporter of Bihar Leader of Opposition and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and has frequently expressed admiration for RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, whom he has publicly described as a father figure.

Khesari’s political association with the RJD has been significant over the years.

Apart from campaigning extensively for the party during elections, he had also contested the 2025 Bihar Assembly poll from the Chhapra seat on an RJD ticket.

Due to this long-standing association, he was widely seen as part of the anti-BJP camp in Bihar politics.

Against this backdrop, his meeting with Nitin Nabin has led many political observers to wonder whether the Bhojpuri superstar could follow the path taken by several other Bhojpuri celebrities who eventually joined the BJP, including Manoj Tiwari, Ravi Kishan, Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua, and Pawan Singh.

However, both Khesari Lal Yadav and Nitin Nabin have refrained from making any formal political announcement regarding the meeting.

According to people close to Khesari, the interaction was merely a courtesy visit.

After the meeting, Khesari Lal clarified that he had met Nitin Nabin to wish him on his birthday.

“Nitin Nabin belongs to Bihar and currently holds a prominent leadership role in the country’s largest political party. It is a matter of pride,” Khesari said.

Khesari also added that he has no plans to join any political party and termed the interaction a “courtesy meeting”.

Despite his clarification, political speculation continues because such meetings are rarely viewed as insignificant in Bihar’s highly active political landscape.

The discussion has gained further momentum because BJP leaders, including Manoj Tiwari, had previously publicly invited Khesari Lal Yadav to join the party.
