Mangaluru: Good Friday was observed with devotion across the country, with special focus on peace and coexistence inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ.
At St Joseph’s Church Borimar near Bantwal in Dakshina Kannada district, the occasion was marked by a unique candlelight procession that drew widespread attention. Devotees carried candles in a silent march symbolising peace, while commemorating the sacrifice, love and human values preached by Jesus Christ.
The procession, depicting the final journey and burial of Christ, was held in a solemn atmosphere, with participants offering prayers for global peace. People from different faiths also joined the ceremony, reflecting communal harmony.
Good Friday & ‘Way of the Cross’
Good Friday is observed to mark the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Churches across the country conduct special prayers, including the ‘Way of the Cross’, which retraces the key events from his sentencing to crucifixion and burial.
Rituals such as veneration of the cross and special prayer services form an integral part of the observance, with large numbers of devotees participating in churches nationwide.
